Workshop scope
Manufacturing and automation has assumed paramount importance and is a vital input to maintain and improve the economy of the nation and the quality of life. The field of manufacturing and automation is advancing at a rapid pace and new technologies are also emerging in the field. The challenges faced by today's engineers are forcing them to keep on top of the emerging trends through continuous research and development.
The workshop is aimed at providing a common platform for academicians, researchers, practicing professionals and experts from industries to interact and discuss trends and advances in various areas of manufacturing and automation while sharing ideas and perspectives. The workshop will focus on various areas as listed on workshop topics but is by no means limited to these. Keynotes by well-known experts; papers and panel discussions by scientists and researchers; and discussions by industrial managers on joint cooperation projects are planned for the workshop. Especially a half-day tour is planned, including a technical visit, either in laboratories at Shanghai University or in advanced industries outside of the campus.
Workshop Topics
The workshop will mainly cover the following topics in manufacturing engineering, but it is not limited:
1. Robotics and Automation
2. Product Design and Optimization
3. Product Life Cycle Management
4. Integration of CAD/CAPP/CAM/CIMS
5. Manufacturing Systems,
6. Manufacturing Operations Management
7. Knowledge Based Manufacturing
8. Manufacturing Quality Control and Management
9. Sustainable Production
10. Manufacturing Monitoring and Diagnosis
11. Intelligent Manufacturing Systems
12. Lean and Agile Manufacturing
13. Virtual and Grid Manufacturing
14. Resource Management
15. Future Factory
Authors are invited to submit their papers in English of up to 8 single spaced pages, presenting the results of original research or innovative practical applications relevant to the workshop. Those who are interested in presenting papers on the topics listed, or in any area which fit in the general scope of the workshop, should send their papers to the IWAMA secretariat or to Workshop Chair Prof. Kesheng Wang, E-mail: kesheng.wang@ntnu.no. All paper submissions will be done electronically, as indicated in the instructions on the workshop website. Papers will be peer reviewed and final copies of papers for inclusion to the workshop proceedings will be published in a book by Tapir Academic press. Selected papers will be considered for publication in an expanded form in selected international journals.
Venue
The workshop will take place in the School Guesthouse (New Lehu Building, 99 Shangda Road), situated on the campus of Shanghai University, not far from the city center.
Host City
Shanghai University is located in the Eastern cosmopolitan city - Shanghai, the biggest economic center in China. For anyone who is interested in the history of modern China, Shanghai serves as an ideal starting point. The city regarded as the "Oriental Pearl" has a rich heritage, with historic shikumen houses and one of the richest collections of Art Deco buildings in the world. The new Shanghai, like the new China, is still a mystery. It's a vibrant, energetic, changing metropolis, no longer the languid, romantic city of art-deco and opium-den lore. It is a city of the mobile phone, the Internet cafe, the museum with the state-of-the-art audio device. Yet, as in so many Chinese cities, you'll find residents practicing tai chi in the parks, but their focus seems more intense in Shanghai, perhaps because of the bustle and clamor around them. Shanghai continues to develop at an amazing speed. Having successfully hosted the football preliminary of the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Shanghai will host the World Expo in 2010, which offer the means to introduce Shanghai to yet more people worldwide. There is every reason to expect Shanghai to continue to surprise the world.
