On behalf of NTNU’s Globalization Research Programme, the department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT) in collaboration with SINTEFs MARGIN project, SFI Norman and SMARTLOG network  invite you to attend a free seminar on “Global Operations and challenges of operating internationally” on the 18^th November, 2011 (Trondheim). Highly regarded speakers from academia and industry will grace the event. The objective of the seminar is to bring together researchers, practitioners and students and share experiences and research results in order to learn more about how firms can successfully operate in increasingly international networks that connect suppliers, operations and customers.

This is a follow-up event to last year’s Global Sourcing seminar that attracted a large number of participants from academia and industry. (see this page at Smartlog's web site for last year’s program)

This year, we are proud to announce Dr. Michael Mol from Warwick Business School as the international Key note speaker. Dr. Mol has published widely on (international) outsourcing in high ranking journals and is (co-) author of the books “Outsourcing: Design, Process and Performance“  and  “Giant steps in management”. Other speakers will include researchers from NTNU, SINTEF and industry practitioners.

Below you can find more information about the Globalization programme and the involved Sintef projects.

Globalization is one the six strategic research areas of NTNU. As described on NTNU’s website (http://www.ntnu.edu/research/strategicareas): “The NTNU Globalization Programme is highly interdisciplinary and links together researchers from all reaches of the university’s diverse areas of expertise. This approach makes the most of NTNU’s interdisciplinary nature and its national responsibility for science and technology, along with its strong research groups in the humanities, social sciences and architecture”. Within the Globalization Programme, Global Production and Communication is one of the four central focus areas. The seminar is part of this research focus.

SMARTLOG is a network with the visjon to supply the Norwegian industry with high international knowledge in operations and supply chain management. The purpose is to achieve mutual exchange of knowledge and experiences in these areas. Every year, SMARTLOG arranges several seminars, where leading industrial companies and academics share their experiences and results with a mainly industrial audience of typically between 40 and 100 participants.  The SMARTLOG network is operated by SINTEF Industrial Management. MARGIN is a three-year research project that aims to develop integrated and responsive maritime supply chains among industrial actors in Mid-Norway. Focus is on four key research areas: Supplier collaboration and control; effective and responsive manufacturing; new business models for after-sales services; ICT-integration in the supply chain. The project is carried out by Kongsberg Maritime, Noca, Roxar, Fugro Oceanor, SINTEF and HiST, in collaboration with the NCEI cluster.
